Canadian pianist Erika Gundesen is a distinguished graduate of the University of British Columbia, where she studied with Jane Coop and Terence Dawson. She continued her studies with Caroline Palmer at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she completed a Masters in Performance as well as an Artist Diploma as a répétiteur. Erika is currently on a fellowship at GSMD, working as a coach and assistant conductor. Recent and upcoming opera and theatrical credits include Oliver! (Vivo d'Arte), Pirates of Penzance (St. Monica's Players), West Side Story (Vivo d'Arte), My Fair Lady (Geoids Musical Theatre), The Tale of Januarie (GSMD Opera), Così fan tutte (Opera Loki), RENT (Vivo d'Arte), Door (GSMD Opera), Urinetown (St. Monica's Players), Ariane (GSMD Opera), Side by Side by Sondheim (GSMD), Sweeney Todd (Vivo d'Arte), The Rape of Lucretia (GSMD Opera), Parade (London Theatre Workshop, Vivo d'Arte), and Songs for a New World (Jazzhands Optional). She has competed as a finalist in the Canadian Music Competition and the Knigge International Piano Competition, and has also been a recipient of the Leverhulme Trust, the Alberta Arts Graduate Scholarship, UBC School of Music Director's Prize, the June Goldsmith Scholarship, the Robert Silverman Prize in Piano, and the Governor-General's Medal for Academic Excellence.
