Pianist Igor Horvat hails from Croatia. He completed a BA and an MA in Piano Performance at the Zagreb Music University in 2014, and with an Erasmus scholarship was able to study Piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He is a 2017 graduate of the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna, where he was the only student to be admitted to both the Vocal Collaborative Piano and Voice masters’ programs - teachers included David Aronson, Noel Flores, Carolyn Hague and Birgid Steinberger. In Vienna, he served as a rehearsal pianist and coach for numerous opera and operetta productions, most recently for the world premiere of Alma Deutscher’s Cinderella under the artistic patronage of Zubin Mehta. In March 2017, he was appointed music director for a production of Bellini’s Norma by an independent opera company in Vienna.
Igor has also had the opportunity to further his professional development internationally. In the summer of 2016, he was invited to the CoOPERAtive Program in Princeton, NJ, as a pianist intern on a full scholarship. In summer 2017, he joined the Aspen Music Festival and School as an Opera Coach Fellow, where he worked on productions of Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges and the US premiere of Luke Bedford’s Seven Angels. In September 2017, Igor worked on Strauss’ art songs and arias with Angelika Kirchschlager and Malcolm Martineau as a Britten-Pears Young Artist for the 2017-18 season. He has accompanied Lieder and aria recitals in Austria, Croatia, Germany, Slovenia, Switzerland and the USA.
