A tragic tale of passion, revenge and sacrifice, Verdi’s masterpiece follows the story of the lowly jester Rigoletto, the daughter he loves and the Duke he serves.
Acclaimed director Christopher Alden retells Verdi’s opera through the patriarchal setting of a 19th-century gentleman's club, with sumptuous costumes and rich period detail. Featuring some of the composer’s most immediately recognisable music, including 'La donna è mobile' (Women abandon us), this is a must-see new production of a classic of the opera repertoire.
Rigoletto stars baritone Quinn Kelsey in the title role, while ENO regulars soprano Anna Christy and leading bel canto tenor Barry Banks sing their roles for the first time. Making his first return to ENO in many years is British conductor Graeme Jenkins, the long-time Music Director of the Dallas Opera.
