On Wednesday, all 12 singers and 4 répétiteurs gave a concert before the Board members of the NOS and special guest, Dame Kiri te Kanawa. Each singer, accompanied by a répétiteur, performed an aria of their choice, leading to a wonderfully varied, moving and entertaining programme and providing a great opportunity for the singers to be heard and to hear each other.
By Friday it was time for another performance, which was the culmination of the NOS Italian Week, generously supported by the Leche Trust. Here the programme was an informal and light hearted one of Arie Antiche, coached by Mark Shanahan and directed by the Young Artists themselves, and of staged comedy scenes from Italian plays, directed by Matteo Dalle Fratte. These saw singers and répétiteurs side by side and confidently delivering extravagant characters and downright hilarious performances – a fabulously fun end to a great week.
