NOS alumni can be seen in Opera Holland Park's production of Mozart's classic opera
Le nozze di Figaro this evening. Baritone George von Bergen stars as Count Almaviva opposite sopranos Elizabeth Llewellyn as the Countess and Sarah Pring as Marcellina.

Mezzo Alice Coote (trainee 1995) is currently performing the role Le Prince Charmant in Cendrillon at the Royal Opera House. Recent NOS alumni can be found in the supporting cast: soprano Madeleine Pierard stars as Noémie and baritone David Kimberg stars as Surintendant des Plaisirs. Massenet's opera is based on the classic Cinderella fairy tale. Rupert Christiansen, Telegraph wrote "Alice Coote is in glorious full flood as an ardent and virile Prince Charming". |

An array of NOS alumni can be found in Opera Della Luna's production of Mozart's Don Giovanni, opening this evening at the Iford Arts Festival. Baritone Duncan Rock stars in the title role, Ross McInroy plays Leporello, Tyler Clarke stars as Ottavio and future NOS trainee Rhian Lewis stars as Zerlina. The production is conducted by Geoffrey Paterson (trainee 2009). |

Gerald Finley (trainee 1988) received rave reviews for his performance as Hans Sachs in Glyndebourne's recent production of
Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. The Times wrote "Gerald Finley is glorious: vocally right back to his volatile best, and exuding a mesmerising sadness, nobility and anguished stoicism."

Arts Council England funding decisions for the years 2012-2015 were announced today. The National Opera Studio will receive £166,930, £170,769 and £175,547 over this 3-year period. This will help us to continue training opera stars of the future and develop excellent programmes in other areas. |

Alfie Boe (tenor 1999) reached top 10 of the UK album charts earlier this month with his acclaimed album Bring Him Home. In March Alfie can be seen at ENO in Jonathan Miller's production of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado as Nanki-Poo alongside ex NOS Director Donald Maxwell as Pooh-Bah.

| Congratulations to current trainees Susana Gaspar, Justina Gringyte and Hanna Hipp, who have all been awarded places on the Jette Parker Young Artist singer's Programme at the Royal Opera House, London in 2011. They will join past NOS trainees Madeleine Pierard (soprano 2010) and Anna Devin (soprano 2010) in developing their performance skills through further study and performing alongside international stars on the Covent Garden stage. |

Charlotte Higgins writes a compelling article in The Guardian about the widespread effect of arts sector cuts. She quotes David Pickard, Glyndebourne General Director, who points out that whilst Glyndebourne productions are not subsidised by the Arts Council, Glyndebourne relies on Arts Council-funded organisations such as the NOS to train its artists; for example, NOS alumna Kate Royal (soprano 2004).
