David Gowland
studied at the RCM where he won several prizes for piano accompaniment,
and at the NOS. He joined the music staff at Glyndebourne in 1987, and
was winner of the 1988 Jani Strasser Award. He was Head of Music Staff
at the Grand Theatre de Geneve, 1989-96, assisting conductors such as
Patane, Tate, Jordan, Bartoletti, Thielemann, de Waart, Plasson, Elder,
Campanella and Bertini. He has worked regularly with many companies
as senior coach/assistant conductor including Opera National de Paris,
Netherlands Opera, Teatro Real Madrid, Rome Opera, Royal Danish Opera,
Teatro San Carlo Napoli and the Aix, Orange and Wexford Festivals. He
conducted Der Dreigroschenoper for RADA. He was senior coach on the
Ring under Jeffrey Tate in Australia. Concert work has included the
Edinburgh and Aldeburgh Festivals, the Proms and television and radio
with the BBC, RTE and RTSR. He is currently Chief Coach of the Vilar
Young Artists’ Programme at the ROH, a senior coach at Glyndebourne
and a visiting tutor at the NOS.
