Peter Robinson
studied music at St. John’s College, Oxford, and began his career
at Glyndebourne, becoming Chorus Master there in 1973, followed by several
years as Resident Conductor and head of Music Staff for The Australian
Opera. He was Assistant Music Director of the ENO 1981 – 1989,
where he conducted a wide range of repertoire, including The Mastersingers
of Nuremburg, Otello, and all the major Mozart operas.
He returns
to Australia regularly as guest conductor for all the major opera companies
and orchestras. He has also appeared in Canada, Hong Kong, Mexico and
Italy, and conducted for Scottish Opera, Kent Opera and Opera Factory
London.
In the
concert hall, he has conducted most of the major British orchestras,
and appears regularly with the BBC Concert Orchestra. He has conducted
Madam Butterfly, Tosca, Aida and Carmen
at the Royal Albert Hall, and this autumn will conduct Andrea Chenier
for Opera Queensland in Australia. He has worked regularly at the NOS
since 1981, and has been a member of the Board of British Youth Opera
since its inception.
