Hubbard baritone
Julian
Hubbard trained at the Royal College of Music, studying with Margaret
Kingsley, David Owen Norris and Audrey Hyland. He now studies with Christopher
Glynn and Noelle Barker and has participated in masterclasses with Yvonne
Kenny, Roger Vignoles, David Owen Norris and Philip Langridge.
Julian’s opera roles include Aeneas (Dido and
Aeneas), Pinellino in the Benjamin Britten International Opera School
production of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Ned Keene (Peter Grimes)
for Kent Opera Youth, Hel Helson (Paul Bunyan) for APU Opera in Cambridge,
Guglielmo (Cosi fan tutte), Mercutio (Romeo et Juliette) for British
Youth Opera, Drunken Poet/Hymen (Fairy Queen) at the Aldeburgh Festival
2005, Mr Gedge (Albert Herring) at the Britten Weekend at Aldeburgh
and in the world premiere of Another America: Fire by Errollyn Wallen
at Sadler’s Wells.
Recent solo concert performances include: Fauré
and Duruflé Requiems, Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem, Mendelssohn’s
Elijah; Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle, Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s
St Matthew Passion and Britten’s War Requiem in a semi-staged
performance directed by Kim Begley. Over the past two years, Julian
has been working extensively with the pianist Richard Peirson, performing
regularly throughout the country including Huddersfield, Rugby, Canterbury,
Pangbourne, Bristol and London. In March 2004, Julian and Richard performed
their first ‘Winterreise’ to high acclaim.
In 2006
he will cover Morales (Carmen) and sing Falke (Die Fledermaus) for Scottish
Opera.
