Born
in Toowoomba, Australia, Steven completed a Bachelor of Music (Hons) at
the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), majoring in Pipe Organ and
Accompaniment. Whilst at the USQ, Steven was the recipient of 4 major
awards, including best Undergraduate and Postgraduate Musician and completed
his Associate Diploma of Music in Pipe Organ (with distinction) and Piano.
Steven then continued studies at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music,
completing a Graduate Diploma of Music Studies, majoring in Voice. He
has completed his Master of Music at the Guildhall School of Music and
Drama on the Repetiteur course. During this course Steven was Assistant
Conductor/Chorus Master/Repetiteur for Le nozze di Figaro and
Repetiteur for Capriccio.
Steven
has had extensive experience in choral conducting, being Musical Director
of the Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir (Queensland’s Champion
Choir, 2006), the Westside Singers and Director of Music at St Paul’s
Anglican Church, Ipswich. He has lectured in music at tertiary level,
been invited to act as adjudicator and also to lead many choral workshops
and performances. He is currently Director of Music at St Peter's Church,
Hammersmith and is Musical Director/Conductor of the Hayes Symphony
Orchestra.
He has
performed on stage in numerous opera productions including roles in
Die Zauberflöte, The Pilgrim’s Progress,
Semele, Amahland theNight Visitors
and Trial by Jury. In 2006, he sang with Opera Queensland for
their production of Romeo et Juliette.
Last summer
Steven was the Assistant Conductor for The Rake’s Progress
(Opera Faber, Portugal) and joined the music staff of Glyndebourne for
Albert Herring, Macbeth and L'elisir d'amore. Steven
is currently studying at the National Opera Studio and will join the
Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in September 2008 as Repetiteur/Conductor.
