Patricia Orr, Mezzo-Soprano, was born in
Glasgow and read Law and French at the University of Glasgow where she
graduated with first class honours, and a distinction in French language.
She graduated with a postgraduate diploma in Advanced Opera Studies at
the Benjamin Britten International Opera School, Royal College of Music
where she studied with Margaret Kingsley. She was the 2006 winner of the
Alfred Alexander Prize.
Roles include
the Sorceress in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Orimeno
in Cavalli’s Erismena for English Touring Opera, Enfant,
L’Enfant et les Sortileges, Bianca, The Rape of Lucretia
and the role of Prince Orlovsky, Die Fledermaus for the
Benjamin Britten International Opera School and the title role in Handel’s
Tolomeo also in association with the London Handel Society.
Patricia
recently performed as the mezzo soloist in the premiere of Michael Stimpson’s Clouds of War with the English Chamber Orchestra at the Cadogan
Hall and has sung with both the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and
the Edinburgh Quartet. Last year, she was a finalist in the Royal Overseas
League Music Competition.
Patricia
is currently performing with Glyndebourne Festival Chorus and future
engagements include Verdi’s Requiem at Snape Maltings
and the role of Yolande, The Sofa and the cover of Julia, The
Departed with Independent Opera.
