Eliana
Pretorian was born in Romania and after studying choreography and universal
languages she received a singing scholarship to the National Academy of
Music in Bucharest. In 2001 she was awarded a full scholarship to the
RCM in London kindly supported by the John and Jeremy Sacher Trust, The
Wall Trust and Mr.and Mrs. Haynes Scholarship Award.
Eliana is now a member of the "Benjamin Britten International Opera
School" for whom she performed the part of Adele in Die Fledermaus
directed by Paul Curran, the Nightingale and the Princess in Ravel's L'enfant
et les sortileges directed by Jean-Claude Auvray and Amor and Valetto
in Incoronatione di Poppea again under the direction of Paul
Curran. In September 2007 she sang the role of Zerlina in Don Giovanni
for British Youth Opera and in February 2007 she sang the part of Adina
in Elisir d'amore for Opera South. Future engagements include
singing the role of Naiad in Ariadne auf Naxos for Garsington
opera in June,Despina in Così fan tutte for Longborough
Opera Festival in July and the part of Gianetta and covering Adina in
Elisir d'amore for Glyndebourne Touring Opera in the period October-December
2007. She will also sing in Mozart's C minor Mass at Codogan
Hall with the Orchestra of St. John's in September and she has a St. John's
Smith Square solo recital in January 2008.
Eliana
has been a student of Lillian Watson at the Royal College of Music since
2005 and has previously studied with Kathleen Livingstone. She is the
recipient of many awards including the Sybil Tutton Award, Georg Solti
Academy scholarship to study with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, The Concordia
Foundation Berthel Prize Award and the Graziella Sciutti Prize for the
most promising young singer. In 2005 she was the youngest finalist in
the Kathleen Ferrier Competition held at the Wigmore Hall and in 2006
she was chosen to sing for Teresa Berganza at the Purcell Room. Eliana
has performed all over London and in Europe and enjoyed an intense collaboration
with the St. John's Orchestra and John Lubbock between 2005-2007.
