Ian Ryan, born in Essex, studied economics
at Selwyn College, Cambridge and as a repetiteur at the Guildhall School
of Music and Drama (2004-5). He continues to study piano with Caroline
Palmer. At the GSMD, Ian was the repetiteur for productions of The Little
Green Swallow (Jonathan Dove), The Turn of the Screw and a Double Bill
of L’Heure Espangole and Les Mamelles de Tirésias. In 2005-2006,
Ian was the recipient of the RSAMD/Scottish Opera Repetiteur Fellowship
award funded by the Musician's Benevolent Fund. For the RSAMD, Ian was
the principal repetiteur for Cendrillon and Flight and in 2006, Ian joined
the music staff of Scottish Opera for productions of La Bohème,
Don Giovanni and Carmen. He has also worked on small professional productions
of Carmen, Tosca, Cosi fan Tutte, Don Pasquale, Die Fledermaus, Madama
Butterly and the premiere of a new opera, The Crocodile by Llywelyn ap
Myrddin. He has performed live on Radio 3's "In Tune" and continues
to work as an accompanist focusing on both vocal and string repertoire.
Since completing his Fellowship in the summer of 2006, Ian has been the
repetiteur for La Donna del Lago, a concert performance at the Edinburgh
International Festival, conducted by Maurizio Benini. He has also returned
to Scottish Opera as guest repetiteur for Der Rosenkavalier, conducted
by Sir Richard Armstrong.
Ian is extremely grateful for the generous support of the Musician's Benevolent
Fund in his 2005-2006 RSAMD/SO Fellowship and as the recipient of an MBF
award for repetiteurs for his 2006-2007 studies at the National Opera
Studio.His
