Krzysztof Szumanski Bass Baritone
Young Polish baritone Krzysztof Szumanski studied at the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw and has performed throughout his home country as well as in several European countries.

Supported by the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Polish Ministry of Culture, the Madeline Finden Memorial Trust and the Simon Fletcher Charitable Trust, Krzysztof has also studied at the UK’s National Opera Studio in London. He has taken Masterclasses there with Alison Pearce, Rusko Ruskow and Axelle Gall and also has completed a baroque opera course at the Handel Academy in Karlsruhe, Germany.

He reached the semi-finals of both the Handel Singing Competition in London and the AsLiCo International Singing Competition at La Scala, Milan.

As a student Krzysztof sung Don Alfonso in Cosi fan Tutte, Rudzinski in Stabat Mater, Yamadori in Madame Butterfly and Morales in Carmen for the National Baltic Opera in Gdansk, Poland as well as covering the title role in Don Giovanni at the national Opera in Warsaw.

In 2003 he was selected to tour France, Portugal and Holland singing Abner in Handel’s Athalia with the European Baroque Academy under the direction of Paul McCreesh. These performances were recorded for French Radio Classique and broadcast on the French international television channel, Mezzo. In his native Warsaw, Krzysztof co-founded a regular Young Musicians season with monthly song and opera performances at which he also sang.

Krzysztof will join the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in September 2006 and make his Royal Opera debut as Steward and Sentry (Lady Macbeth of Masons), followed by Earmuff (The Queen of Spades), Second Prisoner (Fidelio) and Scarring (Tosca), and understudy Zuniga (Carmen), Ferrando (Il trovatore) and Maestro (Don Giovanni).
