Susana Gaspar soprano

Susana Gaspar enrolled in 1998 at the National Conservatory of Lisbon, where she studied singing with António Wagner Diniz and Ana Paula Russo. She sang in the São Carlos Theatre Choir during the 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 seasons. She has been a member of the Lisbon Chamber Choir since 2000. She has sang the operatic roles of: Papagena from Mozart’s Zauberflöte, Serpina from Pergolesi’s La serva padrona, Euridice from Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, Dircea and Mochila from Jose de Nebra’s Para obsequio a la deidad nunca es culto la crueldad e Iphigenia en Tracia (Zurich with Ensemble Turicum).

In 2005 at the Trindade Theatre in Lisbon, Susana created the title role of Little Prince in the homonymous opera by the Argentinean composer Daniel Schvetz.  She has recently made her debut at the S.Carlos Theatre in Lisbon as Josephine in the Opera Comedy on the Bridge by Martinu. She has sang extensively in several international venues such as Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon), St.Martin in the Fields (London), Grossmünster (Zürich), Paxos Chamber Music Festival in Greece, Les Azuriales Young Artist Programme (Nice). She was a finalist in the  Richard Tauber Prize at the Wigmore Hall (2010) and in the Gold Medal Singing Competition at the Barbican (2009). She won the first Melodie/Lieder and Portuguese song Prizes and the Algarve’s Musical Award at the IV Portuguese Rotary Singing Competition (2010); and the 3rd and Mélodie/Lieder Prizes at the III Portuguese Rotary Singing Competition (2009).

Future plans include: Mimi in La boheme by Puccini for BYO (summer 2010) and a concert in Paris with the Turicum Ensemble (February 2011).

Susana Gaspar has a Bmus and a Mmus degrees by the Guildhall school of Music and Drama both awarded with distinction. She was kindly supported by the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers, Vasconcellos Award, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Derek Buttler Trust. Currently she is a Fellow at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the tuition of Susan Waters.
