Justina Gringytė mezzo soprano

Justina was born in Lithuania. She studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and has recently graduated with distinction from the Postgraduate course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Since her initial visit to Wales in 2006 Justina has studied with Buddug Verona James.

She has performed scenes from Verdi's Falstaff - Meg Page and Don Carlos- Eboli, Tchaikovsky’s  Queen of Spades- Pauline, Bizet’s Carmen- Carmen,  Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi- Romeo, Turnage’s Greek- Waitress 1. She has performed the roles of Dorabella in Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte (Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre), Britten’s Phaedra (RWCMD) , the title role in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (Welsh Baroque Orchestra) and in  Humperdinc’s Hänsel und Gretel- Witch (Theatre Royal, Glasgow). Concert performances include performing at HRH the Prince of Wales’ residence in Llandeilo, Vivaldi’s In furore at Llandaff Cathedral, Clonter Opera Showcase for Emerging Artists, recitals in the International Music Festival “Sugrįžimai” in Lithuania, National Opera Studio showcase with WNO orchestra and a Royal Gala at Buckingham Palace with Bryn Terfel. She has performed in a masterclass with Sarah Walker at the Wigmore Hall. 

Awards include the Bruce Millar/Gulliver Prize 2011, the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ Silver Medal and the Llais Llanbed Award. She was a finalist in the Stuart Burrows International Voice Competition. She was also chosen to compete in the Francisco Viñas Competition, after which she received a scholarship to study at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana di Siena in Italy.

Justina is a Samling scholar. Whilst a trainee at the National Opera Studio she was supported by the Lionel Anthony Scholarship. In September 2011 Justina joined Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at ROH, Covent Garden.
