Nathan Vale tenor

Nathan Vale was a Choral Scholar at Wells Cathedral before commencing his studies at the Royal College of Music. He was one of the first recipients of the Peter Pears Scholarship, and graduated from the Royal College in 2008, where he studied with Ryland Davies at the Benjamin Britten International Opera School. He is the winner of the 2006 London Handel Singing Competition, where he was also awarded the Audience Prize.

Concert highlights include, Weinachts Oratorium with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and Harry Christophers, Handel’s Messiah with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano and Sir Neville Marriner, Evangelist in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Northern Sinfonia and Thomas Zehetmair, and the arias with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano and Ruben Jais, the arias in Bach’s St. John Passion with the Aarhus Symphony and Paul Goodwin, Mendelssohn’s Die Erste Walpurgisnacht with the Rai Orchestra Turin and Sir Neville Marriner, Handel’s Solomon with the London Handel Festival Orchestra and Laurence Cummings, Mozart C Minor Mass with the Bach Choir and David Hill, Bach Cantatas with the London Bach Society in the Wigmore Hall, Finzi Dies Natalis with the Pro Musica Orchestra and Paul Spicer, Acis and Galatea for La Nuova Musica and the London Handel Festival, and Israel in Egypt with Stephen Layton at the Hereford Three Choirs Festival.
A finalist in the Young Songmakers’ Almanac and winner of the 2005 AESS English Song Competition, Nathan is increasingly in demand as a recitalist, with appearances at the Wigmore Hall, Three Choirs Festival in Hereford, for the Housman, Gurney, Warlock and Ireland Societies, a recital to celebrate the life of Eric Sams alongside Dame Felicitty Lott and pianist Graham Johnson, and most recently, a recital with Julius Drake as part of the Temple Recital Series. Nathan also made a recording of English Songs with pianist Paul Plummer for SOMM Records.

His operatic engagements include, Lurcanio in Ariodante and Oronte in Alcina for English Touring Opera, Emilio in Partenope for the Les Azureal Festival, Seneca Friend and cover Lurcano in Poppea for ENO, Belfiore La Finta Giardiniera for Opera Bauge, Pedrillo Die Entführung Aus Dem Serail for Surrey Opera, Nencio in Haydn’s L’Infidelta Delusa for Bampton Classical Opera, and First Prisoner in Fidelio and cover Evangelist in Bach's St Matthew Passion for the Glyndebourne Festival. Nathan has also covered the roles of Ferrando in Cosi fan Tutte, and Nanki Poo in The Mikado for ENO. At the BBIOS he has sung Nerone L’incoronazione di Poppea and Alessandro Handel’s Poro, rè dell'Indie

Future engagements include, Lurcanio Ariodante with Bolshoi Opera, Male Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia in London’s Arcola Theatre with Thomas Blunt, L’enfant es les Sortileges with the Rai Orchestra Turin and Pascal Rophé, Britten’s War Requiem in Salisbury Cathedral with Mark Forgen, a return to the Temple Recital Series with Julius Drake, and Handel’s Messiah with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.
