Ida Falk Winland soprano
Born into a family of musicians in Sweden, Ida Falk Winland began studying cello and piano at the age of ten. Formal singing lessons began at the age of 16, and in 2002 she was awarded a scholarship for studies at the Royal College of Music. She studied at the Benjamin Britten International Opera School (Royal College of Music) holding a Van der Beugel Scholarship supported by a Derek Butler Trust Award. Ida Falk Winland is already an active performer in England and Europe, appearing as soloist in performances such as Mozart's Mass in C Minor conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras and Bach's B Minor Mass conducted by Peter Schreier at St. John's, Smith Square.
Recent engagements include the role of Euridice in Monteverdi’s opera L’Orfeo for Drottningholm Opera Company in Stockholm, concerts with the Radio Symphony Orchestra and Daniel Harding, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Gustavo Dudamel, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Okko Kamu performing songs by R Strauss and Mahler 4th Symphony , the role of Anne Truelove in Stravinsky’s Opera The Rakes’s Progress for the BBIOS , radio broadcasts for Swedish Classical Radio during 2007 as Artist in Residence, music including Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire, a four week tour in Asia with Okko Kamu and the Asian Youth Orchestra, performing concert arias by Mozart and Mahler's Fourth Symphony in venues including Tokyo Opera City, Shanghai Oriental Art Centre Concert Hall, Taipei National Concert Hall and Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall, Mozart Operatic Arias with Lahti Symphony Orchestra at the Sibelius Hall, concerts and a radio broadcast with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the cover singer for Fauré's La Fête étrange at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and concerts with the English Chamber Orchestra as well as with the Finnish Chamber Orchestra.
Future engagements include: role of Cleopatra for Gothenburg Opera, Nordic songs with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, a recital of Strauss songs in the Cadogan Hall, concerts with Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Choir and various recitals for Swedish Classical Radio as Artist in Recidence 2007-2009.
Ida is the winner of Sweden’s most prestigious music competition the Swedish soloist Prize 2008 and was awarded the Kathleen Ferrier Song Prize 2008. During June 2007, Ida was one of the 25 finalists competing in the prestigious and famous BBC Singer of the World Competition and in December last year Ida followed in the footsteps of many great artists including Renee Flemming, as the selected artist performing at the Nobel Prize Ceremony 2007.
