Jeremy
Bines repetiteur
Jeremy Bines
was born in Belfast in 1977. He studied music at Gonville & Caius
College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a double distinction in 1999,
before going on to complete an MPhil in Ethnomusicology the following
year. He trained as a repetiteur at the National Opera Studio in 2002-3,
where his studies were supported by the Friends of Covent Garden, Jean
Dunlop Bursary, the Sir Henry Richardson Award and the Leonard Hancock
Trust.
As
a repetiteur he has worked for ROH, ENO, Almeida Opera, The Opera Group,
New Kent Opera, Psappha, and the Batignano Festival. He conducted several
orchestras at Cambridge, has twice conducted at the Dartington Festival
(Entführung and Traviata) where he studied in Diego
Masson’s class courtesy of the Angus Allnot Foundation. In Autumn
2003 he conducted offstage at ROH (Boris Godunov).
He
has recorded several times for ASV and Guild, featuring as a pianist on
a recent CD of Rebecca Clarke’s vocal music and recording his debut
disc as an organ soloist with the Kammerorkester Basel and Christopher
Hogwood. This CD, of twentieth century Swiss music, was well received
on its release in 2003 (“Jeremy Bines is ideal as the soloist…
such panache” – International Record Review; “an
attractive disc” – Gramophone; “sparkling performances
from Bines” – Choir & Organ). He has also played
for a number of broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4.
Future
engagements include assistant conducting at the Belle-Île-en-Mer
festival in summer 2004 (Carmen and Die Zauberflöte).
Jeremy is currently working on the music staff at ENO.
