Curry Tenor
David
Curry was born in Canada, and studied in London at the Royal Academy
of Music, Royal Schools Opera School, and National Opera Studio,
where his studies were supported by The Friends of Covent Garden.
Whilst a student at the Royal Schools, operatic work included the Amtshauptmann in Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe, Tom Rakewell in The Rake’s Progress, Silvio in Le Docteur Miracle, and Lechmere in Owen Wingrave. Other work includes Gomatz in the Canadian staged premiere of Zaide, the Sorceress and Sailor in Dido and Aeneas with the Orlando Choir and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and Pinkerton in scenes from Madame Butterfly for BBC Television. Most recently David has performed the role of Gervais in Auber’s Manon Lescaut at the Wexford Festival, Don Jose in Carmen for Welsh National Opera Max project, and Marco in The Gondoliers for Carl Rosa Opera. David appears regularly in the concert platform in a wide range of repertoire, which includes Messiah, Masses by Haydn and Mozart, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Verdi Requiem, Dvorak Stabat Mater, Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, horn and strings, and Finzi’s Dies Natalis. David also performed the world premiere of Delius’s Maud for tenor and orchestra. Recent engagements a gala concert with the Windsor Symphony in Canada, an operatic concert for the Wexford Festival, and Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance for Carl Rosa Opera at the Buxton Festival. Plans in the 2003/04 season include Don Fulgencio in Maria de Carmen and Operetta Concerts at the Wexford Festival, Kudrjas in Katya Kabanova for Welsh National Opera, Camille in The Merry Widow for Carl Rosa Opera. Future plans include Camille for Carl Rosa in Australia and Rosenblatt recital at St Johns Smith Square London. |
