Aidan Oliver repetiteur Aidan
Oliver is Director of Music at St. Margaret's Church, Westminster, the
Parliamentary Church. As a choral conductor he is much in demand: his
engagements have included work with the BBC Singers, Philharmonia Chorus,
London Symphony Chorus, Bach Choir and the Chorus of English National
Opera. He is the founding chorus master of Philharmonia Voices, a professional
chorus which works with the Philharmonia Orchestra on performances of
the great choral-orchestral works with international conductors: engagements
have included highly acclaimed performances of Britten Death in Venice
under Hickox, Haydn’s Creation under Schiff, and Mahler’s
Symphony No.3 under Salonen. He is also the conductor of Dulwich Choral
Society and of the vocal ensemble Spiritus.
Aidan is also heavily involved in the field of opera as a conductor
and répétiteur, and has worked on the music staff of the
Royal Opera House, Garsington Opera, Opera North and at the Spoleto
Festival, as well as working as assistant conductor to Richard Hickox
on several acclaimed opera recordings for the Chandos label including
Britten Death in Venice and Owen Wingrave. Since 2004 he has been Associate
Conductor at the prestigious St Endellion Festival in Cornwall, and
he has also worked as musical director to Opera à la Carte for
several tours to the UK, Ireland and the Bermuda Festival.
Aidan began
his musical career as a chorister at Westminster Cathedral, later studying
at Eton College and King's College Cambridge as a Choral Scholar. Having
graduated from Cambridge with a double first in Classics, he studied
musicology at Harvard University as a Kennedy Scholar, and at King's
College London; he also studied choral music in Russia as a Churchill
Memorial Fellow.
