Rejieli Paulo Soprano
At the age of eight, Australian born Soprano, Rejieli Paulo, was encouraged and supported by Churchill Fellow, Jean Heriot to pursue a career in singing, to this end she began training with the Berwick Children’s Choir. In 1994 she attended the Melba Conservatorium of Music where she continued vocal training with Lynette Casey-Brereton. Rejieli obtained Dux of first year during her Diploma of Music, and later graduated with a Bachelor of Music (with Honours) in 1997. She gained Distinctions in her Chief Practical Study (Voice), at Melba, and has been awarded numerous coveted scholarships, including the Dame Nellie Melba, and Amelia Joscelyne scholarships.

Rejieli has also participated as a student in the Masterclass courses at the Australian National Academy of Music, allowing the opportunity to learn with renowned professionals including Daniel Ferro (NYC), Prof Richard Miller (Oberlin), Gregory Yurisich, Marilyn Richardson, Lauris Elms, Malcolm Donnelly, Christa Leahman and Rita Hunter.

Amongst Rejieli’s achievements in recent years, are numerous first places including the City of Sydney Opera Awards, the Austral Salon scholarship and the Australian Youth Aria. She has twice been a Grand Finalist in the Herald-Sun Aria, taking first place in 2001. In the same year, Rejieli was also the winner of the Marianne Mathy Award at the Australian singing competition, Sydney Opera House. Rejieli enjoyed this success under the tutelage of Anna Connolly, and is now studying with Rosamund Illing.

In 1999, Rejieli was delighted to become a part of the Chorus of Opera Australia. The Operas in which she has performed include: Mozart’s Magic Flute and Don Giovanni, Bizet’s Pearl Fishers, Verdi’s Don Carlo, Puccini's Tosca, Strauss’ Die Fledermaus and Der Rosenkavalier, Puccini’s Madam Butterfly and the World Premier of Richard Mills’ Batavia.

In addition to her work with Opera Australia, Rejieli has also performed the following roles; Female Chorus Rape of Lucretia by Britten for the VCA Masters course. La Ciesca Gianni Schicchi by Puccini with Melbourne City Opera. Dido Dido & Aenaes for the Camberwell Chorale & Camerata Orchestra. Scenes from Don Giovanni (Donna Anna) and La Clemenza di Tito (Vitellia) and Verdi’s Tosca and studied at the Ronald Dowd Mastercourse under Victor Morris.

As an Oratorio singer, Rejieli has performed in Mozart’s Missa in C, K317 for the Australian National Youth Performing Arts Group. Soprano in Vivaldi’s Gloria in D for the Melbourne Grammar Concert, Handel’s Messiah with the Dandenong Choral Society, Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate with the Zelman Orchestra, which was also recorded and aired on 3MBS. She also participated in the chorus of Verdi’s Requiem with Opera Australia.

Her recital and concert engagements include soloist for Opera in the Market with Orchestra Victoria, conducted by Maestro Richard Divall, Music Lover’s Society of Victoria regular recital soloist. Guest soloist for ABC Young Performer Awards with the Sydney Symphony, and regular soloist for the Rotary clubs of Australia and Inner Wheel.

Future engagements include: Nelly Apt Scholarship to attend the Israeli Vocal Arts Program in Tel Aviv with Joan Dornemann from Metropolitan Opera Company (NY), Recital engagement in the Temple Square concert series, Utah, USA, Symphony Australia engagement, ABC Classic FM studio broadcast engagement for National Transmission. 2MBS-FM Studio Recording engagement for the Australian Fine Music Network.

Music has always been her passion, and Rejieli looks forward to all of the study that she is yet to undertake in order to refine her vocal technique, stagecraft and expand her repertoire. In doing so she aspires to a successful career in International Opera, with her family by her side.
