Robert was born in Essex in 1976, and began his musical training as a chorister at Brentwood Cathedral. In 1997 he graduated from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, with a BA Hons in Music. He has just completed his studies at the Benjamin Britten International Opera School where he studied with Neil Mackie and Ryland Davies and was supported by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust. He is studied at the National Opera Studio, where his studies were supported by Scottish Opera and the Nicholas John Trust. He is now on the Royal Opera Vilar programme. Operatic roles include Jenik The Bartered Bride and Ishmael Nabucco for Northern Opera; The Narrator and Sir Philip Wingrave in the opera Owen Wingrave performed by the London Royal Schools opera department; Don Curzio and Don Basilio in The Marriage of Figaro for Clonter Opera. He has also sung the role of Don Basilio in a concert performance with the London Mozart Players conducted by Andrew Parrott. For Orange Opera he has performed the roles of Albert Herring, Tom Rakewell, Andres Wozzeck, Don Ramiro Cenerentola, Don José Carmen, Lensky Eugene Onegin. For Mananan Festival Opera 2002 he performed the role of Lindoro in Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri. At the Benjamin Britten International Opera School Robert performed the roles of Flute/Thisby A Midsummer Night’s Dream directed by John Copley, the Evangelist (Handel’s Brockes Passion), Le Berger Oedipus Rex, title role Albert Herring directed by Sir Thomas Allen. In August 2003 he performed the role of Lurcanio Ariodante for Opera da Camera, Linz. Robert has worked with some of Britain’s finest choral groups including The Monteverdi Choir conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner and The Sixteen conducted by Harry Christophers. He won the second prize in the Kathleen Ferrier competition 2003. He took part in the académie européenne at the festival d’Aix-en-Provence 2003. He has sung in Masterclasses with Christa Ludwig, Edda Moser, Philip Langridge, Wolfgang Holzmair, Tom Allen, Sarah Walker and Gerald Finley. He has also recently recorded some German lieder for a CD, accompanied by Clarinet and Piano with Colin Bradbury and Oliver Davies.
