James
Robinson Bass Baritone
James Robinson was born in 1976 and graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2001. During his studies he won several prizes including the RAM Foundation prize in 2000 and First prize in the 2000 Great Elm Vocal Awards. James’s Oratorio experience is extensive. He has performed much of the core repertoire widely across the UK, appearing with many choral societies in such works as Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Creation and Nelson Mass, The St. Matthew and St. John Passion’s of Bach and the Requiems of Mozart, Faure and Durufle. James Made His Proms debut in 2000 singing the part of a False Witness in Mendelssohn’s Paulus, under Richard Hickox with the BBC Natioal Orchestra of Wales. He also recorded the work with them for Chandos live at St. Davids Hall, Cardiff. Operatic roles include: Kecal Bartered Bride and Hermit Der Freischutz with New Youth Opera in 2001; Don Alfonso with Cambridge University Operatic Society in 2002; Bartolo Le Nozze di Figaro in 2002, Bottom (Cover) in 2003, Badger/Priest Cunning little Vixen and Somnus (Cover) Semele, in 2004 for British Youth Opera. James’s other Operatic experience includes, chorus at Glyndebourne Festival and Touring Opera in 2003 and extra chorus at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in numerous productions since 2002. Earlier in 2004 James covered the role of Figaro The Marriage of Figaro and sang Fiorello The Barber of Seville for Savoy Opera at the Savoy Theatre. Whilst at RAM, James studied with Mark Wildman and was coached by Julius Drake. He currently studies with Robert Dean. James' NOS studies are supported by the Headley Trust and a Nelly Groner Bursary. |
