Richard Barnard (with lyrics by Ian McMillan) - The Song Cycle I Am Going To Sing
Bernstein - I Hate Music

On Wednesday 29 August, we welcome back 2016/17 alumni Elizabeth Karani (soprano) and Edmund Whitehead (répétiteur) to the Studio for a performance of a brand new song cycle by Richard Barnard and Ian McMillan.

Poet Ian McMillan (BBC Radio 3's The Verb) and composer Richard Barnard's second collaboration is a comic song cycle: A soprano is about to perform a cycle by the composer Rüf, "whose hair was coiffed by history, but the wind blew the style out instantly". The singer soon becomes distracted by lost umbrellas, over-blown translations and unexpected guests.

The commission and performances are supported by Arts Council England Lottery Project Grants, Les Azuriales Opera, and Countess of Munster Musical Trust.

Tickets are not required for this free recital.
