Spanish-English soprano Alexandra Lowe recently completed her training at the Guildhall School of Music Opera School under the tutelage of Yvonne Kenny. She previously graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree and a Masters of Music from the Royal Northern College of Music. Most recent competitions and awards include The Clonter Opera Prize, the Elisabeth Harwood Prize and the Kennedy Award for Singing Strauss. She is a recipient of a Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians and of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Sarah Brightman Scholarship. In 2018 she became a Samling Artist.
Operatic roles performed at the GSMD and/or the RNCM include Fiordiligi Così fan tutte, Helena A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lucia I/II, Anna Gomez The Consul, Rose Maurrant Street Scene, Theodora and Métella Silla. Professionally, she has played Fiordiligi (Nevill Holt Opera), Donna Elvira Don Giovanni (Clonter Opera) and Barena Jenufa (Grange Park Opera). Roles at British Youth Opera include The Bride/Wife/Mother The Vanishing Bridegroom and Mrs Coyle Owen Wingrave. She recently performed Strauss’ Four Last Songs with the Junior Guildhall Symphony Orchestra. As an oratorio soloist, her repertoire includes Elijah Mendelssohn, Requiem Brahms, Te Deum Dvorâk, Messiah Handel, Requiem Fauré, The Armed Man Jenkins, Petite Messe Solenelle Rossini, Requiem Chilcott and Spirit of England Elgar.
Alexandra has performed live on BBC Radio 3, singing Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music with the CBSO (cond. Simon Halsey) and at the British premiere concert of Per la ricuperata salute di Ofelia by Mozart, Salieri and Cornetti, which she later performed on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune.
