Led by Jan Capinski, a former singer who now produces hundreds of aria videos each year, this practical workshop explores how to create professional-quality audition recordings using affordable equipment. Beginning with the basics of selecting recording devices, venues, microphones and camera positions, the day will guide participants through the complete recording process. As a group, you’ll record several arias and learn every stage of the production pipeline, from soundcheck and performance through to editing and assembling polished final videos.
Topics covered:
- Choosing recording equipment
- Venue and repertoire considerations
- Practical recording case studies in Blackburn Hall using a Zoom recorder
- Audio and video post-production
- Participant-led Q&A
This workshop is available to all singers and repetiteurs aged 18+
Please note that this is a masterclass in self-recording, focused on developing the skills and techniques needed to create effective recordings of your own work.
Participants may have the opportunity to record short sections of repertoire during the session; however, due to the structure of the day, we cannot guarantee that everyone will sing. This is a learning experience rather than a recording session, and we are unable to send any recordings made during the workshop to participants.
