Alum Concert Series

Joanna Harries

Live

We are thrilled to launch our new Alum Concert Series, where our alums return to the National Opera Studio to perform a series of free recitals. Kicking off the series is mezzo-soprano Joanna Harries (2021/22), known for her “emotional force” (The Times), alongside the “poetic and characterful” pianist Jong Sun Woo (The Guardian). At its heart is a new song cycle by composer Alex Groves created with participants from Goodmayes Hospital, a mental health facility in Ilford, in partnership with mental health & arts charity Hospital Rooms. Interweaving the new work are songs in English, German, French, Czech, Japanese and Korean exploring what it means to listen and be heard.
