Demystifying Auditions

This three-day short course is designed to help you reimagine the audition process, build confidence, and refine your communication through character analysis and musical coaching. 

You’ll work with Sarah-Jane Davies (Head of Casting, Scottish Opera), John Savournin (Charles Court Opera), and soprano Susan Bullock CBE to explore how we present ourselves in the unique environment of an audition and develop strategies for handling any situation. 

Our experienced coaches will work with you on two arias of your choice, currently in preparation for auditions or the upcoming season. The course combines group teaching and one-to-one tuition, focusing on vocal coaching, character and text analysis, movement and body language, communication skills, self-talk, and critical thinking.  

The course will culminate in a mock audition and feedback session with the panel. 

Eligibility

This course is designed for singers who have or are looking to apply for a postgraduate-level degree or diploma in singing in opera or already have some professional singing experience. 

What’s included:

• Auditions masterclasses and interpretation sessions with Sarah-Jane Davies and John Savournin; 
• Vocal coaching sessions with Susan Bullock CBE; 
• Talks on aspects of casting, self-promotion and professional development with NOS staff and industry professionals; 
• Mock auditions, with feedback given, as a culmination of the course to a panel of industry professionals; 
• A professional audition aria video recording from the mock audition, which will then be sent to you after the course for your own use;
