Stagecraft in Opera Covid-19 The National Opera Studio is committed to ensuring the safety of all those who come through our doors. As such, we are paying very close attention to the guidance coming out of the UK government and have taken steps to ensure that the Studio remains a safe space for all Young Artists, staff and visitors. As the course approaches, we shall continue to take into account our Covid rules and government advice and adhere to the most up-to-date guidance. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us: [email protected] **This course has now sold out** If you would like to put your name on the waiting list, please email [email protected] Introduction from the Course Leader: "Nothing excites me more – as a course leader – than when an artist begins, with panache, to integrate the three key skills of a fully-fledged opera singer. Those skills are vocal technique, a responsive and confident physical relationship between mind and body, and the ability to interpret a role as an effective actor. Our one-week together will enable all artist/participants to create their own toolboxes to hold new or refreshed skills. You will be able to identify exactly how to develop further as a complete singer and we shall provide advice, guidance and signposting on what to do next…since new techniques cannot be fully mastered in a week. Supporting your existing collection of artistic skills we will sharpen your enquiring mind, encourage a strong imagination and confidence to use your personal, rich experience to support character building. Directors usually want to work with singers who are not only excellent collaborators but also bring vivid ideas and are willing to try new and different ideas, in rehearsals. Interestingly, ensemble collaboration is the most creative way of working and although we’ll only have a week together, we will aim to invoke the ensemble feeling and help you to make the group an artistic collective. If you are open to trying new ways of approaching a role, collaborating and experimenting then this course is for you."
