2025 in numbers

As we approach the end of 2025, here is a snapshot of the year, told through the numbers.

Young Artist Training

In 2025, our National Opera Studio family grew to 736 artists with the arrival of our 2025/26 Young Artists.

Across the year, we delivered 3000 hours of coaching, working with more than 50 coaches across music and vocal, languages, stagecraft, resilience, social media, and professional practice.

Residencies & Partnerships

Throughout 2025, our Young Artists performed in 4 cities across the UK, taking part in 4 residencies with partner companies including Welsh National Opera, Opera North and Scottish Opera.

In addition, artists participated in a masterclass with the Royal Ballet and Opera, and collaborated with English National Opera for a performance at Sinfonia Smith Square, accompanied by ENO’s award-winning orchestra.

Recording Days and Digital Skills

This year included X dedicated recording days, giving Young Artists access to professional equipment and technical support to produce high-quality digital content. These recordings support audition preparation and the development of professional online materials.

Alongside this, our Young Artists took part in talks on social media, CVs, and personal branding, with one-to-one sessions focused on developing their individual social media strategies.

Performances

Across the year, our Young Artists gave over 30 performances in venues across the UK, including Wigmore Hall, Theatre Royal Glasgow, Sinfonia Smith Square, and Wales Millennium Centre. They performed more than 270 individual pieces, sharing their work with over 2,000 audience members, both familiar and new.

Our much-loved lunchtime recital series continued to thrive, with 9 recitals presented during 2025. Across the series we reached over 650 audience members.

Audiences were also able to join us online through our Wandsworth Wednesdays livestreams, extending the reach of our work far beyond the Studio.

Knowledge Studio

2025 marked the launch of the Knowledge Studio, making world-class training resources available to artists wherever they are. With over 80 new, free and open-access resources, the platform supports artists at every stage of their development.

Learning & Participation

In 2025, we delivered 7 major outreach projects across the UK, including 17 school workshops with Wandsworth Music Hub and 4 one-to-one teaching days (23 sessions per day).

We also delivered Storytelling in Opera and Musical Theatre, training 16 emerging artists in London, with additional workshops in Leeds and Birmingham.

Through the NOS Academy, 19 emerging singers received intensive training, professional recordings and headshots, and year-round mentoring. We also offered free training through our Delivering Opera in Education and Community Settings short course, alongside a Relaxed Performance Workshop focused on inclusive practice.

Looking ahead to 2026

Auditions are now underway for the next cohort. From 532 singer applications and 25 repetiteur applications, we will select the singers and repetiteurs who will join the Studio for the coming year.
