Support Learning & Outreach Work

Away from our main programme, we are increasingly active in learning and participation both locally and nationally. We have two strands to this work. First, we are focusing on recruiting talented artists from under-represented backgrounds and/or those who face other barriers to a career in opera. This is a national programme aimed at creating a pipeline of singers who may join our main programme at some point. It is a partnership-based initiative supporting the work of our partner companies and other key organisations.

In other areas, each year we work with Music Theatre students to introduce them to opera, we are developing a web-based resource to stimulate interest in opera and singing, and we are planning to develop resources for neurodiverse performers.

Secondly, we are committed to contributing to local music education organisations, as a way of establishing who we are and what we do in our local community. This year, we plan to partner with the Wandsworth Music Hub, World Heart Beat, and Chickenshed/Opera Brugh.
