Ambrose Connolly

Bio

Ambrose Connolly is a lyric baritone who graduated from University College London with a degree in Russian and French before studying in Russia at the Kazan State Conservatoire under the tutelage of Ekaterina Laider. He was the winner of the 2020 Serebranie Rosi International Opera Singing Prize. Ambrose has more recently completed a Masters in Advanced Vocal Studies at the Wales International Academy of Voice in Cardiff, under the direction of Dennis O’Neill. He was one of eight young singers selected for the Glyndebourne Academy in 2021.  

Notable roles include Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte, (Cardiff Opera), Germont La Traviata (North Wales Opera Studio), and Eugene Oregon Eugene Onegin (HGO and Bath Opera). Ambrose has appeared as a soloist for numerous Choral Societies both in the UK and Europe, including as a soloist for La Misa Del Vale with the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, baritone soloist for Elgar’s Coronation Ode (Trowbridge Symphony Orchestra), Brahm’s Requiem with the Gower Choral Society, and Five Mystical Songs (Benson Choral Society). Before joining the National Opera Studio as a Young artist, Ambrose spent two seasons touring with Diva Opera in South Africa, Europe and the UK where he sang the roles of Baron Duphuol La Traviata, Fiorello Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Figaro Le Nozze di Figaro. He will join Garsington Opera as an Alvarez Emerging Artist for this summer’s festival. Ambrose is taught by Russell Smythe.
