Felicity Tomkins

Bio

Felicity’s time at the Studio is supported through The Nicholas Boas Charitable Trust in memory of Rose Suggate.

New Zealand-British soprano, Felicity Tomkins, was the winner of the 100th Melbourne Opera Herald Sun Aria (2024), the Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship (2024), and the Lockwood New Zealand Aria (2023). 

Felicity is a graduate of the Artist Diploma Opera Programme at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, CCM (2023). She has been a resident New Zealand Opera Studio Artist, an AIMS Graz Opernstudio Artist, and is an alumna of the University of Waikato (MMus/BMus(Hons)/BSc) and New Zealand Opera School. 

Before joining the 2026/27 National Opera Studio Young Artist Programme, this season Felicity will make her mainstage company debut with New Zealand Opera, performing Contessa Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro. Her further operatic experience includes Annina La traviata (Auckland Philharmonia/NZO), Cio-Cio-San Madama Butterfly (Auckland Opera Studio), Military Wife/Soprano 1 The Knock (Cincinnati Opera), Jeannette L’amant Anonyme, Madame Lidoine Dialogues des Carmélites (CCM Opera). 

In concert, Felicity has performed Handel’s Messiah (Auckland Choral), Bacalov’s Misa Tango (Bach Musica), Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 (CCM), Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle (Cantando Choir) and Bach’s B Minor Mass (Hamilton Civic Choir). Her further competition accolades include; 43rd International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition Semi-Finalist (2025), 13th Nadia and Lili Boulanger International Voice-Piano Competition, with pianist Sooyeon Baik (2025), Elizabeth Connell Prize Finalist (2023), Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition Kentucky District Winner (2022/23), Dame Malvina Major Foundation Lexus Song Quest Runner-Up (2022).
