Jem Herbert is an Australian pianist, conductor and composer. In 2026 he concluded his tenure as Young Artist Répétiteur at Opera Australia, where he assisted conductors, played production rehearsals, performed with the Opera Australia Orchestra, accompanied masterclasses and coachings, and appeared in public concerts at the Sydney Opera House.

At Opera Australia he assisted Alexander Briger, Chad Kelly and Erina Yashima in productions and concert performances including the New Year’s Eve Gala and the Gilbert and Sullivan Gala. He played rehearsals for Carmen and Madama Butterfly, undertook orchestral keyboard work, and fulfilled backstage music staff duties in Madama Butterfly and Turandot. In 2025 he completed professional development at Lyric Opera of Chicago, shadowing Chorus Master and Head of Music Michael Black.

Jem completed a Graduate Diploma in Opera Performance (Répétiteur) at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, acting as répétiteur and conductor for Hänsel und Gretel and répétiteur for The Old Maid and the Thief. He holds a Bachelor of Music (Piano Performance) from the University of Melbourne, including an exchange year at Durham University (UK). His compositions include chamber, choral and theatrical works, notably the operetta Mageia: A Musical Fable, commissioned by Trinity College, University of Melbourne.
