Chair of the National Opera Studio Board of Trustees

The National Opera Studio is seeking a Chair of Trustees to succeed Sir Vernon Ellis when he steps down in early 2019.

Currently in its 40th anniversary year, the National Opera Studio (NOS) exists to create a pipeline of talented young musicians to become the next generation of leading artists.  NOS makes a significant contribution to the opera ecology and the wider creative and cultural life of the UK through the provision of top-quality professional training, and by its engagement and position in the sector.

The Chair will;

  • lead and direct the Board and the organisation in the development and delivery of its strategic vision and goals
  • act as a sounding board for the Chief Executive Officer,
  • lead on the fund- and friend-raising for the Studio, working with the executive and management of the NOS and acting as an ambassador and public face of the NOS

Remuneration:               The role of Chair is not accompanied by any financial remuneration although expenses for travel may be claimed

Time Commitment:         4 Board meetings a year. The Chair is also expected to have regular meetings with the Chief Executive and represent the NOS at various events and performances throughout the year. The Chair also leads the Nominations Committee and sits on the Remunerations Committee, both of which are held once a year, on the same day where possible.

Reports to:                    Board of Trustees

Term length:                  A maximum of two terms (a term being 4 years)
