Who is it for?

• Singers about to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level, however you will not have studied on a postgraduate opera course OR
• Those singing to a reasonably high level and have always longed to immerse themselves in an opera course.

Course description

Our Exploring Opera short course is an exploratory course for singers keen to learn key skills in performing opera. It is perfectly suited for singers studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level, or those who have chosen another career path but still sing to a high level and are seeking to immerse themselves in the rehearsal and performance process involved in singing opera. 

Over five days, you will participate in individual and ensemble coaching sessions addressing both musical and vocal matters, workshops on stagecraft and movement, and production rehearsals with fellow course members, building to a final performance at the end of the course to share with your friends and family.

You will work on one pre-prepared aria with our coaches as well as ensemble scenes. 

What will be covered in the course

• One-to-one coaching with David Cowan on aria and scene repertoire;
• Vocal and music coaching with leading NOS coaches;
• An in-house staged performance as a culmination of the course to which you can invite friends, singing teachers and family;
• Feedback from our coaching staff to take you forward to your next stage of training;
• Coaching and rehearsal time with our repetiteurs to work on your repertoire;

Also included:

• Access to the NOS Opera Library;
• Access to our suite of practice rooms.

Eligibility:

• You must be at least 18 years old by the start of the course
• You will have studied singing to a reasonably high level
• You are not already studying on an opera course at a music conservatoire

Fees:

£520 (£480 early bird - closes 31 May)

Booking procedure:

Within one week of receiving your 50% deposit, we will send you an email with a Booking Form.

We will then send a payment link for the remaining payment to be paid by two weeks before the start of the course.

Please note each participant will need to organise their own accommodation during the course.
