Our work is designed to support performers at various stages of their pathway towards becoming a singer. We work with artists, singers, and choirs across a variety of levels and platforms, connecting young children to local musical communities all the way to training artists who are already singing professionally on stage.
In addition to outreach work with schools, community choirs, and youth choirs, we also run the National Talent Programme. This is a bespoke, part-time programme that offers in-house training.
The National Opera Studio is committed to providing equality of opportunity to those aspiring to enter the opera profession. Our current ACE funding for Diverse Voices aims to support young UK-born or UK-resident individuals from global majority backgrounds. With further research and the securing of future funding, we anticipate expanding our programs to assist those from other backgrounds that are currently underrepresented in opera.
Most of our work is designed to target singers over the age of 16. If you’re interested in our program and working with children under 16 years of age, please still get in touch! Part of our mission is to connect young singers with choirs and music theatre groups in their local areas.
Diverse Voices grew out of a commitment within the professional opera community to collaborate and provide opportunities for singers at all stages of their development who might otherwise not find pathways to the opera stage.
Our outreach work is designed to encourage young people from diverse backgrounds to explore the possibilities and opportunities of a career in opera. While our main focus is on developing skills in solo-dramatic singing, our work continues to place great emphasis on introducing young singers to the world of music theatre.
The National Talent Programme is designed to support Young Artists on a part-time, flexible basis. This represents the highest level of support we offer through our Diverse Voices Programme, with all coaching and classes running alongside the Global Talent Programme (GTP).
